Surprise Yourself. An unexpected poem. : )

Surprise yourself

Expect your days to flow

like water.

Your nights to deepen

with harmony.

Expect the sunrise to awaken

who you are.

The sunset, to remember

what you yearn for.

The surprise is the depth

of the process.

to reveal you to you.

The thread of you spins

from way back

to now.

Now is a tapestry:

shimmering, glinting, glittering,

swimming, flowing, nurturing,

holding, noticing, celebrating.

You are the cloth,

the space between the fibers,

the wool and cotton,

the flax, silk, and jute.

Natural fibers bend and break

under pressure, with climactic changes.

Heartbreak. Heartmend.

Wound. Scar. Mark of beauty.

You.

Surprise!

I am a mother and a grandmother, a listener, a wave rider, a force of nature, laughter emerging from the dark.

I have surprised myself over the past three months of being away from the security of home, of a place I recognize, a place which recognizes me.

To write of pilgrimage seems…well, big. Bigger than me. Today is the beginning.
